Native Seed Collection - Bird Benefit Packet - Prairie Moon Nursery (L2L)
Sustain the next generation of birds by planting a living birdfeeder! Adult birds will adore seeds from Coneflower, Sunflower, and Partridge Pea. They can perch in the safety of sturdy plants like Cup Plant or Wild Indigo. Columbine will be one of the first spring bloomers to sustain Hummingbirds as they migrate back. For optimal bird support, do not cut plants back in the fall. This allows overwintering birds a chance to forage and seek shelter from the cold.
The Bird Benefit Collection includes 1 seed packet of each of the following 6 species:
Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis) - 250 seeds/packet
White Wild Indigo (Baptisia alba) - 75 seeds/packet
Partridge Pea (Chamaecrista fasiculata) - 250 seeds/packet
Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) - 300 seeds/packet
Showy Sunflower (Helianthus pauciflorus) - 100 seeds/packet
Cup Plant (Siplhium perfoliatum) - 75 seeds/packet
For a naturalized look, combine all seed packets to cover approximately 10-15 sq ft. Surface sow outdoors on a weed-free site in late fall. Mow the first growing season. Expect first blooms in year 2 or 3.
Alternatively, sow seed in rows in a garden setting late fall. In spring, thin seedlings and weed as expected with vegetable gardening. Transplant to permanent location that fall or the following spring.
