Smaller in size than sunflower seeds, safflower seeds are nutritionally similar and contain a high level of energy and fiber for birds. This energy is necessary for birds developing and maintaining their health. Better yet, pesky squirrels tend to dislike the taste of safflower seeds, and less-welcome birds like starlings and grackles don’t have beaks strong enough to crack the shell.  If you’ve been feeding sunflower for a long time, adding an additional feeder with safflower is a great way to mix it up and give your birds a new flavor to enjoy!

Preferred by a wide variety of feeder birds, this safflower feed is a favorite of cardinals, nuthatches, chickadees, blue jays, and many more. These seeds can be used in the following feeder types: tube, tray, platform, or fly-through feeders.

Tip: It's very important that safflower seeds stay dry as birds will not eat wet safflower. Choose a feeder that has a nice cover and doesn't frequently spill seeds onto the ground where they could get wet and spoil.
