Communities in northern Ghana have traditionally relied on farming and herding for their livelihoods. However, an increasingly unpredictable climate has made agriculture more challenging. To supplement household income, many artisans - primarily women - hand weave baskets from locally sourced grass. These beautifully crafted pieces are widely known as Bolga baskets.

This time-honored skill has been passed down through generations and now supports thousands of families. On average, a weaver balancing both home and family responsibilities can produce about two baskets per week.
